Tales From Earthsea © Ursula K. Le Guin and Studio Ghibli.


The DVD of Tales From Earthsea has finally come out here in the UK so of course I watched it that very day. I'd read that it wasn't great but I wanted to check myself. Sure, it doesn't compare to the books by Ursula K. Le Guin but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd managed to get my hands on the OST, by Tamiya Terashima, some time ago and it was great to finally have some video to go with all the tracks I loved so much.

I don't know how I managed to forget just how much I'd loved Ged and Tenar in the books. Sure, Arren and Therru were cute and all in the movie, but I cared much more about the adults. The (crappy) title refers to the part of Tenar's past that is only hinted at in the movie, when she talks about leaving the Tombs of Atuan and says that he "led [her] into the light". Gah, I need to read the books again.

I know I am pretty easy to please, but while it's true that the script is quite weird (especially when you know the books), it seriously could have been worse. And the OST is really worth it :heart:

I started reading the manga, but am not finished yet. However, I like Ged :heart: Arren and Therru... I didn't get hooked on them yet :/

Great! I really love Ghibli, so I'll be looking forward to it..but I think the US release is still a way off...
